Dragon, starring Jr NTR in the lead role, is already generating massive excitement ahead of its June 11, 2027 theatrical release. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the action spectacle has remained a hot topic online ever since the makers unveiled its intense first glimpse on the actor’s birthday.
Prashanth Neel says Dragon is darker than his previous films
According to details shared by Team Dragon, Prashanth Neel revealed that the film explores territory much darker than anything he has previously written. Speaking about Jr NTR’s character, Luger, the filmmaker said the role demanded immense courage from the actor due to its risky and unconventional nature.
Neel shared, “This is probably one of the most difficult decisions NTR had to make as an actor. The character, Luger, is far darker than anything I’ve written before, and for a star of his stature to accept such a risky role is incredibly brave.”
The filmmaker further revealed that it took nearly three years to fully develop the emotional motivations behind the character and his actions. Once the script finally came together, Jr NTR immediately agreed to take on the challenging role despite knowing it would surprise his audience.
Earlier, Prashanth Neel had also confirmed that Dragon would be the final entry in his lineup of hyper-realistic mass action entertainers. He additionally clarified that the movie has no connection or crossover with his earlier cinematic worlds from KGF or Salaar.
More about Dragon
The film stars Jr NTR as Luger, an operative deeply involved in a substance-smuggling network facing a major crackdown from authorities. Alongside him, Rukmini Vasanth plays the female lead, while Anil Kapoor, Biju Menon, Ashutosh Rana, and Sidhant Gupta appear in key roles.
Reports earlier suggested that Tovino Thomas was initially considered for a major role in the film. However, the actor eventually opted out due to concerns over the project’s lengthy shooting schedule. Later speculation claimed Sidhant Gupta had replaced him, but Sidhant’s team clarified that his role is entirely different and not a replacement.
