Ajith Kumar and director Vignesh Shivan were once set to collaborate on a film tentatively titled AK62. However, the project was eventually shelved, and the filmmaker has now revealed the reasons behind its cancellation despite years of effort.
Vignesh Shivan opens up on shelved Ajith Kumar film
In a recent conversation with Behindwoods, Vignesh Shivan shared that working with Ajith Kumar had always been a dream for him. He revealed that he spent nearly three to four years developing the screenplay independently, but the project could not move forward due to budget and production constraints.
He further explained that the production team had suggested changes to the second half of the film, which also impacted the overall vision.
Budget constraints and creative vision
Drawing comparisons, the director mentioned how Prashanth Neel had the backing of Hombale Films for large-scale projects like KGF. Inspired by films such as KGF and RRR, Vignesh said he envisioned a similarly grand film with Ajith Kumar.
However, the required budget for such a масштаб production was not supported by the producers, ultimately leading to the project being dropped.
What happened to AK62?
For those unaware, AK62 was officially announced with Vignesh Shivan as director and Anirudh Ravichander onboard for the music. However, the project later underwent major changes, with Magizh Thirumeni stepping in as director.
The film was eventually reworked into Vidaamuyarchi, shifting away from Shivan’s original concept.
Vignesh Shivan’s latest release: LIK
Vignesh Shivan recently returned to cinemas with Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), a sci-fi romantic comedy set in the year 2040. The film stars Pradeep Ranganathan and Krithi Shetty and revolves around a futuristic world where relationships are determined by algorithms and advanced technology.
The story follows a young man navigating love in a system-driven society, raising questions about whether technology can truly replace human emotions. The film also features SJ Suryah, Yogi Babu, Seeman, and Gouri G Kishan in key roles.
Ajith Kumar’s next project
Meanwhile, Ajith Kumar is gearing up for his next film, tentatively titled AK64, which will be directed by Adhik Ravichandran. The project is expected to be an action entertainer, with Sreeleela likely to play the female lead.
However, with a producer yet to be finalized, the film has not gone on floors so far.
