Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has dismissed rumours suggesting that the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) has been shelved. Ahead of the release of his acting debut DC, the filmmaker assured fans that the shared universe will continue, with Kaithi 2, Vikram 2, Rolex, and Benz all remaining in the pipeline.
Lokesh Kanagaraj breaks silence on LCU rumours
Speaking at a recent event, Lokesh addressed speculation surrounding the future of the LCU, saying the reports were baseless.
“There was buzz going around that the LCU was closed. I would shut down GSquad if it came to that, but I cannot close the LCU. I didn’t even name it—it was a tag given by fans online, and I simply adopted it. I’m still following it,” he said.
The filmmaker further emphasized that the sequels and spin-offs connected to the universe are commitments he intends to fulfil.
“I cannot suddenly say I’m not making any more films in the LCU. Whether it’s Kaithi 2, Vikram 2, or the standalone Rolex film, these are all my commitments. The LCU is not closed; it will continue. After I complete my film with Allu Arjun, I will return to it. Benz, under my production banner, is also happening and is a part of the LCU,” he added.
The LCU began with Kaithi and later expanded through Vikram and Leo, creating an interconnected cinematic universe that has become one of Tamil cinema’s most popular franchises.
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s upcoming films
Lokesh is set to make his debut as a lead actor with Arun Matheswaran’s DC, a modern reimagining of Devadas with an action backdrop. The film stars Wamiqa Gabbi as Chandra and Sanjana AK as Parvathi, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. It is scheduled to release in theatres on July 31, 2026.
After DC, Lokesh will return to directing with Allu Arjun’s much-awaited action entertainer, tentatively titled AA23 (LK07), which will also feature music by Anirudh Ravichander. Once that project is completed, the filmmaker plans to resume work on the next chapter of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe.
