Mahesh Babu is currently busy with SS Rajamouli’s time-travel action-adventure Varanasi, which is scheduled to arrive in theatres on April 7, 2027. Now, reports suggest that the superstar could reunite with filmmaker Anil Ravipudi for another project after completing the Rajamouli directorial.
Mahesh Babu and Anil Ravipudi set for another collaboration?
According to a report by Gulte, Mahesh Babu is keen to take up a quick project after Varanasi and may even commit his dates before the film reaches theatres. The actor is reportedly planning to take around a month off for Varanasi promotions, after which his collaboration with Anil Ravipudi could target a Sankranti 2028 release.
Discussions regarding the potential project are said to be in progress, although the film has not yet received an official announcement from the makers.
Mahesh Babu and Anil Ravipudi previously joined forces for the action-comedy Sarileru Neekevvaru. The film revolves around Major Ajay Krishna, who travels to Kurnool to deliver the news of a soldier’s death to his family. However, he soon discovers that the family is being harassed by a powerful antagonist.
Ajay decides to intervene, takes on the villain and his network, and helps the family deal with their problems while keeping the truth about the soldier’s death hidden until his sister’s wedding. After completing his mission, he returns, having also managed to reform Nagendra through discipline.
The film featured Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead, alongside Vijayashanti, Prakash Raj, Rajendra Prasad and others.

Varanasi is set in a futuristic 2027, where humanity faces a major threat from an asteroid named Shambhavi heading towards the city of Varanasi. Mahesh Babu plays Rudhra, a rugged archaeologist and explorer who is recruited for a dangerous global mission to locate an ancient cosmic artifact.
His journey takes him through the African jungles, Antarctica’s frozen terrain and several parts of Europe, while he is pursued by Kumbha, a technologically advanced antagonist. The mystery surrounding Varanasi’s ancient mythology is believed to hold the key to averting the impending catastrophe.
Directed by SS Rajamouli, the film stars Mahesh Babu alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in important roles. The project is reportedly expected to be completed by October 2026.
