Kalki 2898 AD, which hit theatres in 2024, emerged as a major blockbuster with Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone in key roles. Now, director Nag Ashwin has revealed that the team has completed only a 10-day shooting schedule for the sequel so far. The remaining portions will be filmed once Prabhas becomes available.

Nag Ashwin confirms 10-day shooting schedule for Kalki 2

During the pre-release event of Dulquer Salmaan’s I’m Game, Nag Ashwin opened up about the progress of Kalki 2. He said, “The planets have aligned and even taken a round. So, we will begin shooting again when they align and can take another round. Not much. We shot for only about 10 days. Once Prabhas garu is free, we will shoot in a long stretch.”

Earlier in February, Amitabh Bachchan had shared pictures and glimpses from the sets of Kalki 2 through his blog. The veteran actor was seen shooting alongside Kamal Haasan and shared photographs of himself hugging the actor and interacting with him on the sets. While Bachchan appeared in his Ashwatthama avatar, Kamal Haasan was seen in casual clothing instead of his Supreme Yaskin appearance.

Notably, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan did not have a scene together in the first Kalki 2898 AD. Their presence together in the sequel could therefore indicate that their characters will finally come face-to-face.

More about Kalki 2898 AD

Kalki 2898 AD opens during the closing stages of the Mahabharata’s Kurukshetra war and establishes the beginning of the Kali Yuga in 3102 BC. Following the battle, Lord Krishna assigns Ashwatthama the duty of protecting Lord Vishnu’s final avatar when the destined time arrives.

Fast-forward 6,000 years to 2898 AD, and humanity exists in a bleak dystopian world controlled by Supreme Yaskin, a self-proclaimed god who rules through fear. While many people attempt to win his favour in the hope of entering the prosperous Complex, a group of rebels continues to resist his oppressive rule.

As the world inches closer to losing all hope, a new possibility emerges through SUM-80, also known as Sumathi, who is carrying an unborn child. Yaskin and his followers seek to harness the child’s life force, setting the stage for an epic battle and the continuation of the larger saga.

The first film featured Prabhas as the central protagonist, alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan in important roles. Deepika has reportedly opted out of the sequel, while rumours indicate that Sai Pallavi could step into her role in Kalki 2.
