Dhanush and filmmaker Vetrimaaran are joining forces once again for Thamizh Murugan, an adaptation of Arivumathi’s novel of the same name. The makers have now officially revealed the film’s first-look poster on social media.

Thamizh Murugan first look out

Sharing the poster online, Dhanush wrote, “The Eternal Protector, warrior, THE KING & LEADER of the Thamizh people and lands. Son of Kottravai. THAMIZH MURUGAN.”

Helmed by Vetrimaaran, the film is set to present a story centred on Lord Murugan. Music composer Sai Abhyankkar has been roped in to compose both the songs and background score, marking his maiden collaboration with the acclaimed director.

Interestingly, the announcement comes just days after Jr NTR and Trivikram Srinivas officially revealed their upcoming project based on the same deity. Tentatively titled NTRxTrivikram, the big-budget film is expected to explore the concept of the “God of War,” with Anirudh Ravichander composing its music and background score.

Adding to the trend, Sivakarthikeyan’s Seyon is also reportedly inspired by the same mythology. With multiple filmmakers drawing from similar lore, audiences will be keen to see how each project offers its own unique interpretation.

Dhanush’s upcoming films

Dhanush was last seen in Kara, an action thriller directed by Vignesh Raja. The film follows Karasamy, a reformed thief who returns to his old ways in a desperate attempt to reclaim his family’s mortgaged ancestral property and fulfil his father’s final wish.

The cast also includes Mamitha Baiju, KS Ravikumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunaas, and Jayaram in pivotal roles. Following its theatrical run, the film is now streaming on Netflix.

The actor is currently shooting for Om, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. Scheduled to release in theatres on October 16, 2026, the film also stars Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela, and Naseeruddin Shah in prominent roles. Featuring music by Sai Abhyankkar, Om has been confirmed as the first chapter of a planned franchise.

Meanwhile, director Vetrimaaran is busy with his next directorial venture, Arasan, headlined by Silambarasan TR.
