Karuppu, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles, hit theatres on May 15, 2026. Directed by RJ Balaji, the fantasy action drama has been performing exceptionally well at the box office. Amid the film’s success, Suriya has now responded to speculation surrounding a possible sequel.

Is Karuppu 2 happening?

During a recent fan meet-and-greet event celebrating the film’s reception, Suriya was asked whether a sequel to Karuppu had been confirmed. Reacting to the question, the actor said, “Nambikai thaan sir vazhkai,” which translates to “Belief is life, sir.” His response has sparked fresh excitement among fans about the future of the franchise.

Interestingly, director RJ Balaji had recently hinted in a media interaction that a sequel is already being planned.

Suriya also shared that Karuppu became one of the quickest films he agreed to in recent years. According to the actor, he finalized the project within just 30 to 45 minutes of hearing the narration. He further mentioned that he had not witnessed such overwhelming and unanimous appreciation for his films globally in a long time.

Suriya on the climax dance sequence

Speaking about the film’s ending, Suriya revealed that the much-talked-about climax dance sequence was added only after the movie’s final edit had already been locked months earlier. He explained that despite financial challenges, one of the assistant directors suggested including a special song dedicated to Karuppasamy, which eventually became part of the finale.
