Rajinikanth’s upcoming action entertainer Dharman is progressing steadily, with director Ashwath Marimuthu confirming that the film’s shoot will be completed by October 2026. The project, earlier referred to by its tentative title Thalaivar173, marks Rajinikanth’s collaboration with the Dragon director.
Dharman: Rajinikanth starrer to wrap shooting by October 2026
Speaking at an event organised by Galatta, Ashwath Marimuthu revealed that two schedules of Dharman have already been completed and that filming is expected to conclude in October 2026. The director also praised Rajinikanth’s personality, describing the superstar as someone with a “Gen-Z vibe” and calling him exceptionally sweet and respectful towards the craft.
Ashwath shared that working with Rajinikanth has been an enjoyable experience and recalled how the actor would stand up whenever the director approached him, explaining that he did so out of respect for the craft and the director.
The filmmaker also provided an update on his next collaboration with Silambarasan TR. Tentatively titled STR51, the project is expected to begin filming in February 2027 after the actor completes Arasan.

Dharman is touted to be a stylish action entertainer, with Rajinikanth reportedly playing a doctor. Simran Bagga, Yogi Babu and Raashii Khanna are also part of the cast. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music and background score, while Niketh Bommireddy handles cinematography.
Pradeep E. Ragav is editing the film, with the Anbariv duo overseeing the action sequences. There have also been reports that Ram Pothineni could play the main antagonist, although the casting has not been officially confirmed.
Rajinikanth’s work front
Rajinikanth will next be seen in Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The action entertainer is expected to feature Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu and others, with Hrithik Roshan, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Vijay Sethupathi also reportedly making cameo appearances.
Jailer 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on October 15, 2026. The superstar also has the tentatively titled KHxRK Reunion in the pipeline, which is expected to bring him together with Kamal Haasan.
