Hi, featuring Nayanthara and Kavin in the lead, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 28, 2026. During a recent conversation with Pearle Maaney, Nayanthara drew a comparison between the upcoming romantic comedy and her 2008 release Yaaradi Nee Mohini.
Hi: Nayanthara compares her film with Dhanush’s Yaaradi Nee Mohini
While speaking to Pearle Maaney, Nayanthara described Hi as a simple and heartwarming love story. She said it reminded her of the kind of family-oriented romance seen in Yaaradi Nee Mohini, adding that the new film is a more contemporary and compact take on that format.
For context, Yaaradi Nee Mohini, which starred Dhanush and Nayanthara, revolves around Vasudevan, an unemployed young man from a middle-class family who falls for Keerthi, a software professional who is engaged to his close friend Cheenu. Keerthi initially turns down Vasu, but eventually develops feelings for him. When Cheenu learns about their relationship, he chooses to step aside and help the couple. Despite opposition from their families and several misunderstandings, Vasu and Keerthi manage to overcome the hurdles and start a life together.
Directed by Mithran Jawahar, Yaaradi Nee Mohini was adapted from the Telugu film Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule, which starred Venkatesh Daggubati and Trisha Krishnan and was directed by Selvaraghavan.
More about Hi
Based on the trailer, Hi revolves around Mayilsamy, a young man who repeatedly faces setbacks in his search for love and marriage. During his efforts to find a suitable partner, he meets Devayani, a woman with an unconventional personality who turns down his proposal.
However, an unexpected turn of events leads the two to get married despite their relationship initially being one-sided. The film explores whether Mayilsamy can transform this unusual marriage into a genuine love story.
Apart from Nayanthara and Kavin, the movie features late actor Bhagyaraj, Prabhu and Radikaa Sarathkumar in important roles.
Nayanthara’s upcoming project
After Hi, Nayanthara will be seen in Yash’s action drama Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, directed by Geetu Mohandas. Set against a stylised underworld backdrop, the film centres on Raya, whose world changes dramatically following the arrival of his son, Ticket.
The Kannada-English bilingual is set to release in several Indian languages and is scheduled to reach theatres on August 26, 2026.
