Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s spy action drama Alpha witnessed a modest jump on its first Discount Tuesday, collecting an estimated Rs. 4 crore at the Indian box office. The film registered around 15 percent growth over Monday, taking its five-day total to Rs. 40.50 crore nett.
Despite reduced ticket prices, the Tuesday jump remained below expectations, largely due to the film’s mixed word of mouth, which has limited its reach among audiences.
With Rs. 40.50 crore in the bag, Alpha is now expected to wrap up its first week in the Rs. 46-48 crore nett range. The film should cross the Rs. 50 crore mark during its second week, likely by Friday, before facing fresh competition from Dhamaal 4 over the weekend.
The film entered theatres with several challenges. Female-led action films have historically struggled to attract large audiences in India, while the YRF Spy Universe has also been trying to regain momentum following the underperformance of Tiger 3 and War 2.
One notable aspect of Alpha‘s release has been Yash Raj Films’ decision to avoid artificial box office inflation tactics, continuing the studio’s recent approach of accepting the film’s theatrical performance without resorting to questionable trade practices.
