Steven Spielberg applauds Obsession and Backrooms’ success
American filmmaker Steven Spielberg has been credited with delivering multiple hits. Hence, when he lauds a movie, it’s a big win for the director and the entire team. Recently, at an event, the Disclosure Day helmer shared his opinions on the success of horror films, Obsession and Backrooms. While talking to the above-mentioned outlet, the Jaws director couldn’t help but hail the mind-blowing global success of the two recent low-budget horror entertainers.

Spielberg confessed he is completely in awe of what these filmmakers have accomplished. “I’m so happy for them. I think it’s so fantastic,” Spielberg expressed. He further added, “I think it’s great that they had basically very little money, especially Obsession had under $1 million, and the other film had maybe 10 or nine, and they’re doing so well, and I just applaud them.”

The iconic director also spilled on whether he’s managed to watch the spooky flicks himself. “I haven’t seen Backrooms; I am going to see it when all this is over. But I have seen Obsession, and I loved it,” he shared. Both films have been shattering records, proving that the audience is always appreciative of attention-grabbing original ideas. For the unversed, Obsession is directed by 26-year-old filmmaker Curry Barker.

The low-budget psychological thriller features Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, along with Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter.

As for Backrooms, it is the brainchild of 20-year-old filmmaker, musician, and YouTuber Kane Parsons. The psychological horror features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, Avan Jogia, Robert Bobroczkyi, and Krista Kosonen.
