Director Priyadarshan and Mohanlal had earlier announced a landmark collaboration that would mark the filmmaker’s 100th feature. However, the project now appears to have been pushed to 2027, with Priyadarshan reportedly planning another film with Akshay Kumar before returning to it.

Priyadarshan’s milestone film with Mohanlal likely delayed

According to a report by Mid-Day, Priyadarshan’s much-anticipated project with Mohanlal was initially expected to go on floors in October 2026. However, the screenplay is currently being revised, resulting in the production being rescheduled to 2027.

The report also states that the filmmaker’s dramedy starring Pankaj Tripathi is undergoing script revisions as well. Amid these developments, Priyadarshan reportedly confirmed that his immediate next venture will reunite him with Akshay Kumar, following their collaborations on Bhooth Bangla and the upcoming thriller Haiwaan.

The update comes shortly after Priyadarshan revealed that he is no longer associated with Hera Pheri 3, adding that the long-awaited sequel is unlikely to reach theatres in its current form.

Earlier, Mohanlal had shared an emotional note while announcing the project, describing it as Priyadarshan’s milestone 100th film. He wrote that some milestones belong not just to one individual but to everyone who has been part of the journey. Calling Priyadarshan his dearest “Priyan,” Mohanlal said the achievement represented a lifetime devoted to storytelling, passion for cinema, and unwavering dedication.

The actor and director last collaborated on Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham (Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea), the historical epic released in 2021.

Mohanlal’s upcoming projects

Mohanlal was most recently seen in Drishyam 3, directed by Jeethu Joseph. The third installment of the blockbuster thriller franchise saw Meena, Ansiba Haasan, Esther Anil, Murali Gopy, Asha Sarath, Kalabhavan Shajon, and Siddique reprise their roles.

He is currently shooting for Athimanoharam, directed by Tharun Moorthy. Co-starring Meera Jasmine, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on December 24, 2026.
