Mirzapur: The Movie registered an excellent hold on its first Monday, with the film collecting around Rs. 16 crore nett. This represents a drop of approximately 35 percent from its opening day, which is a very strong hold. However, considering the opening day was boosted by the Janmashtami holiday, the real-value drop is even better at around 20 percent.
The film is also benefiting from discounts today, while its advances remain superb. This could lead to another surge in collections, giving the film further momentum during the week.
With Rs. 16 crore nett on Monday, the four-day running total of Mirzapur: The Movie stands at around Rs. 107.50 crore nett. The film is now expected to finish its first week in the vicinity of Rs. 145 to 150 crore nett.
Mirzapur: The Movie Eyes BLOCKBUSTER Status
On paper, a Monday hold of this level would generally be enough to call a film a BLOCKBUSTER. However, there is some hesitation before giving the verdict, as several recent films have failed to finish at the level their Monday holds initially suggested.
Awarapan 2, Welcome to the Jungle, Dhamaal 4 and, before them, Border 2 are examples where the eventual finish was less impressive than the early trends indicated. In the case of Awarapan 2 and Welcome to the Jungle, competition played a role in shortening their theatrical runs, while Dhamaal 4 and Border 2 also did not finish as strongly as their Monday trends had suggested.
That said, Mirzapur: The Movie is in a stronger position than those films on several counts. Firstly, its Monday hold is better than that of the aforementioned titles. Secondly, the film is currently in a favourable position from a competition standpoint. And thirdly, even if it were to follow a similar trajectory to Dhamaal 4 or Border 2, it would still have enough business to reach the BLOCKBUSTER mark.
Still, it would be prudent to wait for the Wednesday hold before making the final verdict.
Hindi Box Office Enjoying a Strong Run
The Hindi box office has been enjoying a healthy phase since the release of Welcome to the Jungle at the end of June. There has been a steady flow of releases, with several films emerging as successes, while even some underperformers managed to record decent initial collections, with Batwara 1947 being the notable exception.
The upcoming year-end slate also looks promising. If the current momentum continues, 2026 could end up being the strongest post-pandemic year for the Hindi film industry, potentially even matching some of the industry’s pre-pandemic years in overall strength.
