Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart collected Rs. 1 to 1.10 crore on its first Monday. That’s a good hold in general, but not in the context of what sort of trending the film needs. The film should have stayed closer to the Saturday number, but it fell to Friday.
The running cume of the mythological fantasy drama reached Rs. 7.75 crore nett at the Hindi box office. The film also had Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions, which brought in another Rs. 65 lakh nett approx. so far. It is looking to close its first week around Rs. 10 crore or so in Hindi. One must note that the movie has no star value attached to it. Furthermore, it is released in just 700 screens in the Hindi belt.
There was Mahavatar Narsimha last year, which was an animated film based on two of the avatars of Lord Vishnu. That film opened to Rs. 1.25 crore nett on the first day, saw exponential growth over the weekend to Rs. 3.25 crore nett on Saturday and Rs. 6.25 crore nett on Sunday. It eventually went on to collect Rs. 170 crore nett in Hindi. Krishnavataram is a live-action film on the Krishna avatar. The weekend trend isn’t as strong, but things could change over the coming days and weeks. These films are hard to predict. We also saw a film like Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahayate last year, which did almost nothing in the first three weeks and then exploded.
