Batwara 1947 ended its theatrical journey on a disappointing note at the box office. The Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, and Karan Deol starrer concluded its worldwide run below the Rs. 45 crore gross mark. The film had a weak start, partly due to limited impact from its marketing campaign, while mixed word-of-mouth further affected its performance in cinemas.
The movie earned approximately Rs. 38.50 crore gross, equivalent to Rs. 32 crore nett, during its complete theatrical run in India. In the overseas markets, it added around USD 600K, or Rs. 5.75 crore. The international performance was equally underwhelming. With stronger audience reception, the film could have achieved significantly better numbers.
Made on a lavish budget under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, Batwara 1947 marks Sunny Deol’s first major box-office disappointment following his successful comeback with Gadar 2 in 2023. The actor will next appear in Ramayana, where he is set to portray Lord Hanuman. He also has the smaller-scale film Gabru lined up for release this year. It remains to be seen how these projects perform at the box office.
