Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, is finally playing in cinemas now. As per early estimates, the spy action drama, directed by Shiv Rawail, opened with Rs. 8.50 to 9.00 crore nett at the Indian box office, which is not huge but definitely a good start considering the female-centric subject and the pre-release negativity around the film.
In fact, the start is better than the trade expectations, thanks to spot bookings and walk-in audience. One of the major reasons behind its encouraging start could be the aggressive release strategy of YRF’s distribution. Furthermore, it was released with the popular weekend pricing strategy, which eventually helped.
Though the film did well to counter the baggage of War 2’s failure on day 1, the content has not landed the way the makers thought. So far, the word-of-mouth seems harsh, which would be concerning for its box office run ahead. Still, there is some hope for a good opening weekend if the film records a promising growth over the next two days.
Despite mixed word of mouth, the distribution team secured an unprecedented release size for Alpha. The sheer scale of the release caught the trade by surprise and played a crucial role in delivering a good start.
For the unversed, the movie marks the first female-led spy actioner in the much-popular cinematic universe. Besides Alia and Sharvari, it also stars Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles. Moreover, Hrithik Roshan will be seen in a guest appearance in the film. It will be interesting to see whether Alpha can emerge as a successful story at the box office or not.
