Alpha Box Office: Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s spy thriller earns Rs 2 crore on second Saturday, closes in on Rs 50 crore

Alpha continued its theatrical run with a modest jump on its second Saturday, collecting an estimated Rs. 2 crore nett at the Indian box office. The film witnessed around a 60 percent growth over its second Friday, taking its cumulative total to Rs. 48.50 crore nett.

Directed by Shiv Rawail, the spy action drama starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari is expected to wrap up its second weekend with around Rs. 5-6 crore nett. If it maintains the trend, the film will comfortably cross the Rs. 50 crore milestone before the weekend concludes.

Backed by Yash Raj Films, Alpha is now projected to finish its domestic theatrical run in the vicinity of Rs. 60-65 crore nett. While that total would place it ahead of several recent women-led films, it still falls well short of expectations considering the film’s scale, budget, and star cast. As things stand, the movie is likely to end its run with a Flop verdict.

The film faced several challenges from the very beginning. Female-led action films have traditionally struggled to draw audiences in India, making Alpha a difficult proposition commercially. Adding to the challenge was the weakened momentum of the YRF Spy Universe after the underwhelming performances of Tiger 3 and, more notably, War 2. Given those circumstances, the film managing a respectable theatrical run can be viewed as a small achievement, although commercially it is still expected to incur significant losses.

One aspect that deserves appreciation is Yash Raj Films’ decision to avoid artificial box office practices often seen in the industry. The studio followed the same approach during War 2 and has once again chosen to let the film’s performance speak for itself. Regardless of the outcome, YRF continues to set an example by maintaining transparency and accepting both success and failure with professionalism.
