Emraan Hashmi fans have a reason to celebrate as the makers of Awarapan 2 are bringing the original Awarapan back to theatres. Nearly two decades after its release, the 2007 cult classic is set to return to the big screen, giving audiences another chance to relive Shivam Pandit’s unforgettable journey.
Awarapan set for theatrical re-release
The makers have officially planned a theatrical re-release of Awarapan on July 31, 2026. Although the film recorded only a modest box office performance upon its original release in 2007, it has since evolved into a cult favourite thanks to its gripping story, memorable performances, and evergreen soundtrack.
According to a source quoted by Bollywood Hungama, the decision to bring Awarapan back to cinemas was driven by the film’s enduring popularity.
“Awarapan will re-release on July 31. The first part continues to enjoy strong recall value because of its cast, subject, emotional moments, mass appeal, and above all, its timeless music. That’s why the makers decided to bring it back to theatres before the release of Awarapan 2,” the source said.
The re-release is also expected to serve as a promotional boost for the upcoming sequel by allowing longtime fans to revisit the original on the big screen while introducing the film to a new generation of moviegoers.
However, the film will face competition from the Hollywood blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is scheduled to release in Indian cinemas on July 30, 2026.
Despite the clash, industry observers believe the nostalgic appeal of Emraan Hashmi’s iconic performance and the film’s cult following could help it attract a dedicated audience.
Awarapan 2 to release on Independence Day weekend
The re-release will pave the way for Awarapan 2, which is slated to arrive in theatres on August 14, 2026, during the Independence Day weekend.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Bhatt, the sequel will feature Emraan Hashmi reprising his beloved role, with Disha Patani joining the franchise as the female lead.
With the original returning to theatres and the sequel just weeks away, fans of the franchise have plenty to look forward to.
