Imtiaz Ali has made it clear that revisiting his iconic films isn’t on his priority list. Despite constant fan demand for sequels to Jab We Met and Tamasha, the director believes some stories are better left untouched.
Imtiaz Ali shuts down sequel buzz
During a recent interaction, Imtiaz Ali addressed ongoing speculation about Jab We Met 2 and Tamasha 2. While acknowledging the curiosity around these beloved films, he pointed to his experience with Love Aaj Kal (2020) as a cautionary example.
Referring to the sequel starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan, he remarked that it didn’t receive the same appreciation, suggesting that sequels don’t always recreate the magic of the original.
‘Jab We Met is best left untouched’
Talking specifically about Jab We Met, which featured Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor, the filmmaker described it as a cult classic that should remain as it is.
He added that while he isn’t entirely opposed to sequels, he would only consider one if a compelling idea truly resonates with him. For now, however, he feels that Jab We Met is “best left untouched.”
Similarly, Tamasha, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, continues to enjoy a strong fan following, but there are no immediate plans for a follow-up.
What’s next for Imtiaz Ali

He also has O Saathi Re in the pipeline, starring Aditi Rao Hydari, Avinash Tiwary, and Arjun Rampal.
