Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth in the lead, has been in production for quite some time, with fans eagerly awaiting updates. The superstar has now shared fresh details about the sequel, along with his much-anticipated collaboration with Kamal Haasan in the tentatively titled KHxRK project.
Rajinikanth shares update on Jailer 2 and KHxRK
During a recent interaction with paparazzi at an airport, Rajinikanth revealed that Jailer 2 is nearing completion. He stated that the film is currently in its “finishing stage,” with the official release date to be announced soon by the production team.
He also confirmed that the KHxRK film, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is scheduled to go on floors in August 2026.
Cast and expectations from Jailer 2
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is the sequel to the blockbuster action-comedy and will see Rajinikanth reprise his role as “Tiger” Muthuvel Pandian. The film is expected to bring back Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar in key roles.
The sequel is also reported to feature Mithun Chakraborty and Vidya Balan, while SJ Suryah is likely to play the antagonist. Additionally, Shah Rukh Khan is rumored to make a cameo appearance as a police officer, and Nora Fatehi may feature in a special dance number.
Rajinikanth’s upcoming projects
After Jailer 2, Rajinikanth is set to headline his next film, tentatively titled Thalaivar 173. The project will be directed by Cibi Chakravarthy and is expected to be a light-hearted action entertainer.
While the official cast has yet to be announced, reports suggest that Shobana, Basil Joseph, and Priyanka Arul Mohan could play significant roles. The film was initially planned with Sundar C as director, but he later stepped away due to prior commitments.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth’s collaboration with Kamal Haasan, tentatively titled KHxRK Reunion, is already generating buzz. With music by Anirudh Ravichander, the film is expected to hit theatres around the festive season of Diwali or Aayudha Pooja in 2027.
