The Drishyam franchise has been one of Bollywood’s most successful thrillers, which is why every development around its third installment is being closely followed. Recently, however, the film ran into trouble after producer Kumar Mangat Pathak publicly criticised Akshaye Khanna, accusing the actor of unprofessional conduct and a last-minute exit from the project.
Drishyam 3 producer speaks out against Akshaye Khanna
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Kumar Mangat Pathak revealed that Akshaye Khanna opted out of Drishyam 3 just 10 days before the shoot was scheduled to begin. According to the producer, the actor had heard the script at Pathak’s farmhouse in Alibaug and had shown keen interest in the project. The agreement was signed, and an advance payment was also made.
However, days later, Akshaye reportedly informed the makers that he would no longer be part of the film.
Expressing his disappointment, Pathak described the move as unprofessional and suggested that recent success may have influenced the actor’s decision. “He believes he is a superstar now,” the producer said, adding that Akshaye allegedly claimed Dhurandhar worked because of him. Pathak pointed out that a film’s success depends on multiple factors, not just one individual.
The producer went on to allege that Akshaye’s attitude on set has been difficult to deal with. Recalling past experiences, Pathak said that he had been cautioned about the actor’s behaviour even while working with him on Section 375 in 2019. He further claimed that Akshaye began receiving major offers only after the success of Drishyam 2.
Confirming a replacement, Pathak stated that Jaideep Ahlawat has now been roped in for the role. “We believe we’ve found not just a strong performer, but also someone who brings the right energy to the project,” he said.
Pathak also revealed that Akshaye’s sudden exit caused financial losses for the production. As a result, the producer has taken the legal route and confirmed that a legal notice has already been sent, to which Akshaye Khanna is yet to respond.
