Awarapan 2 witnessed a strong jump on its second Saturday, collecting Rs. 8 crore and recording a 50 per cent rise over the previous day. With this, the Emraan Hashmi starrer has taken its 9-day India net total to Rs. 124.75 crore.
The romantic action drama is expected to register another healthy increase on Sunday and could finish its second weekend at around Rs. 20 crore. If that happens, the film’s overall collection will move slightly beyond the Rs. 130 crore mark.
Backed by Vishesh Films, Awarapan 2 is now targeting a lifetime collection of approximately Rs. 150 crore nett, although its final total will depend on how well it performs against Yash’s Toxic in its third week. The film has already secured a Super Hit verdict and has become the biggest-grossing film of Emraan Hashmi’s career as a solo lead.
Starring Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi and others alongside Hashmi, Awarapan 2 has received mixed reactions from audiences. However, the return of the OG Emraan Hashmi and the nostalgia associated with the original Awarapan have played a major role in driving the film’s box office performance.
Day-wise box office collections of Awarapan 2 in India:
| Day | Nett Collection |
|---|---|
| Week 1 | Rs. 111.50 crore |
| 2nd Friday | Rs. 5.25 crore |
| 2nd Saturday | Rs. 8.00 crore |
| Total | Rs. 124.75 crore |
Awarapan 2 is the follow-up to the 2007 film Awarapan, which initially failed at the box office but eventually developed a strong cult following. The success of intense romantic dramas with popular music in recent times brought renewed attention to Emraan Hashmi, who was one of the leading stars of this genre during the 2000s and early 2010s.
At the height of his career, Hashmi delivered films such as Murder 2, Raaz 3, Jannat 2 and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai. His box office fortunes subsequently declined, but the renewed interest in intense love stories eventually paved the way for Awarapan 2.
The sequel’s success is particularly notable considering that the original film was a box-office disaster. With Awarapan 2 now enjoying a Super Hit run and potentially heading towards blockbuster territory, its turnaround has become one of the more unusual franchise success stories in recent times.
