After venturing into several major genres over the years, Yash Raj Films is now reportedly preparing to enter the horror space. The production banner has apparently greenlit its first-ever theatrical horror film, with Rocket Boys creator Abhay Pannu attached to write and direct the project. The untitled film is expected to begin production later this year and is currently being planned for a theatrical release in 2027.

Varun Dhawan likely to headline the film

According to Bollywood Hungama, Varun Dhawan has been finalized to lead the upcoming project. The actor, who has moved between mainstream entertainers and more performance-oriented films throughout his career, will now venture into the horror genre with YRF. If the reports are accurate, the film will also mark Varun’s second collaboration with the production house.

Abhay Pannu to make his theatrical directorial debut

The project will also mark Abhay Pannu’s first theatrical film as a director. After making a name for himself with Rocket Boys, Pannu is now set to take on a new challenge with YRF’s maiden horror venture. His association with the project comes as the banner looks to expand its theatrical slate into unexplored territory.

With Varun Dhawan reportedly leading the cast and Abhay Pannu at the helm, YRF’s untitled horror film is already generating curiosity as one of the banner’s notable theatrical projects targeted for 2027.

Varun Dhawan’s work front

Varun Dhawan was most recently seen in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, directed by his father, filmmaker David Dhawan. The romantic comedy featured Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde alongside him.

Meanwhile, in May 2026,Varun was in advanced discussions for a Hollywood-backed action project from Mortal Kombat producer Lawrence Kasanoff.
