Official trailer and story of Peddi
Set in 1994, Peddi revolves around a gifted athlete from a remote village in the Vizianagaram region that has remained cut off from development and recognition. The protagonist earns a living as an aata coolie (player for hire), participating in local cricket tournaments while sharing a close bond with Appalasoori, an elder determined to bring progress to the village.
A heartbreaking tragedy shatters the community and ends Appalasoori’s lifelong mission, prompting Peddi to carry forward his dream. Guided by veteran wrestler Gournaidu, he gives up cricket and dedicates himself to wrestling, climbing the ranks until a severe leg injury abruptly ends his journey.
Unwilling to surrender, Peddi embraces life as a para-athlete after undergoing an amputation and learning to compete with a running blade prosthesis. His perseverance leads him to victory at a national athletics event in 1996, where he uses his platform to highlight his village’s struggles.
His achievement attracts nationwide attention, ultimately helping the village receive long-awaited recognition and a railway station. Rather than accepting personal honors, Peddi requests that the village be renamed Appalavalasa in memory of Appalasoori before returning to his loved ones.
Years later, in 2016, a National Sports Ministry official visits the village, learns about Peddi’s inspiring journey, and launches an initiative to identify and support talented athletes from remote parts of the country.
