by masalabuzz

The first look and trailer of Neha Dhupia’s international debut film 52 Blue have officially been unveiled. Known for her range as an actor, Neha explores completely new territory in this project, appearing in a raw, deglamourised avatar unlike anything she has done before.

Neha Dhupia on her role in 52 Blue

Speaking about the film and her character, Neha shared that 52 Blue has been one of the most emotionally profound and transformative experiences of her career. She revealed that what struck her most while reading the script was the quiet strength of the mother she portrays—a woman who may not express herself loudly, yet profoundly influences her son’s life. Taking on the role of a mother to a young adult for the first time was both demanding and rewarding, as it required her to connect with deeply instinctive and human emotions.

She further added that the deglam aspect of the role was never a concern; instead, it felt freeing. It allowed her to let go of vanity and fully immerse herself in the character’s world—her silence, resilience, and unconditional love. According to Neha, there is immense power in portraying a character who finds strength in vulnerability.

On working with Ali El Arabi

Neha described her collaboration with filmmaker Ali El Arabi as eye-opening. She praised his honest and grounded storytelling approach, noting that he creates a safe space for actors to explore and push their limits. Filming in Kochi added a layer of authenticity to the narrative with its intimate and distinctive setting.

She also highlighted that at its core, 52 Blue is a story about dreams, breaking barriers, and the unseen forces—like a mother’s belief—that shape an individual’s journey. She expressed gratitude for being part of a film that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable, capable of connecting with audiences across cultures.

About the film

Directed by Ali El Arabi, 52 Blue is a touching coming-of-age story that follows a young Indian football enthusiast who travels as a migrant worker to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The film delves into themes of identity, ambition, and resilience.

The film also features Adil Hussain as Neha’s husband, marking their first on-screen pairing. In a notable shift from her earlier roles, Neha takes on the role of a mother, bringing emotional depth and gravitas to a character central to the story. The project is produced and directed by Ali El Arabi under his banner Ambient Light, with executive producer Tariq Al-Naama and co-producers Krysanne Katsoolis, Joe Matthews, and Katara Studios.
