A few days ago, filmmaker Meghna Gulzar confirmed at a press conference that her upcoming crime thriller Daayra will feature only one song. She also revealed that the lyrics for the track have been written by legendary lyricist Gulzar. Composer Amit Trivedi subsequently confirmed his involvement, and we have now learnt that B Praak has recorded the song, bringing together three prominent names from different corners of the Indian music industry.

According to industry sources, B Praak, who is known for his emotive vocals in songs such as Mitti and Ranjha, has collaborated with Amit Trivedi and Gulzar on the track. The combination of B Praak’s voice, Trivedi’s musical sensibilities and Gulzar’s poetry makes the song an especially interesting part of the film. The makers, however, have chosen to keep further details about the track confidential, adding to the curiosity surrounding it.

Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, Daayra stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran as two police officers whose contrasting views on justice place them on opposite sides of a larger moral conflict. Set against an investigation involving crime, law enforcement and policing, the film examines the complexities that emerge when the very idea of justice becomes open to interpretation and debate.

The recently unveiled trailer has received a positive response from both audiences and critics. The film has also secured the No. 1 spot on IMDb’s list of the most anticipated upcoming films. Videos from promotional events featuring Kareena and Prithviraj have further gained traction online, with viewers particularly excited to see the two actors share screen space for the first time while portraying characters from the world of policing.

Music has often been used selectively yet effectively in Meghna Gulzar’s films, complementing the emotional core of her narratives. From Dilbaro in Raazi to the restrained musical approach of Talvar, the filmmaker has demonstrated that even a limited number of songs can leave a significant impact when integrated into the storytelling.

Against this backdrop, the secrecy surrounding Daayra’s sole song makes the track even more intriguing.

With Gulzar’s lyrics, Amit Trivedi’s composition and B Praak’s vocals coming together, the song could bring an additional emotional dimension to the crime thriller and offer another surprise for audiences.

For now, the makers have opted not to reveal much about the track. However, given the unusual combination of talent involved, the song could turn out to be one of the film’s unexpected highlights.

Produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, Daayra is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 18, 2026.
