Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai collected Rs. 2.75-2.85 crore on its Day 6 (Wednesday), registering a 15-20 per cent drop from Monday. The movie comedy drama, starring Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur, took its 6-day cume to Rs. 33.50 crore nett at the Indian box office. The first week for the film is headed for Rs. 36 crore nett approx.

The box office trajectory is a bit strange here. On Saturday, the film was left for dead with a drop from opening day, which itself could be said to be below average at best. Yet on weekdays, it is putting up decent to good holds. There is an offer in play, which could be helping, but when that didn’t push it much on opening day, there is little it can do on weekdays. A somewhat similar pattern was seen earlier this year with a film that was pretty much done over the weekend, but was putting good holds on weekdays. The reason there was feeding. That film came down in the second week once feeding ended; let’s see if that happens here as well.

In the second week, the film will face competition from several new releases from both Bollywood and Hollywood, namely Main Vaapas Aaunga, Governor, Disclosure Day, Backrooms and so on. This will lead to a cut in showcasing. How that impacts its earnings also needs to be seen. The weekdays’ business has given the film a shot at crossing Rs. 50 crore nett, which seemed unlikely after that Saturday drop. The previous Varun Dhawan starrer Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsii Kumari collected Rs. 60 crore nett; that might be possible here. Not that it will change anything for the film’s fate; it remains a box office disappointment.

Box office collections of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai are as follows:
Day Box Office
Day 1 Rs. 7.50 crore
Day 2 Rs. 7.40 crore
Day 3 Rs. 8.75 crore
Day 4 Rs. 3.35 crore
Day 5 Rs. 3.70 crore
Day 6 Rs. 2.80 crore

Total Rs. 33.50 crore
