Cocktail 2, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna, collected Rs. 4.50 crore on Wednesday (Day 6), registering around a 20 per cent drop from the previous day. This took its 6-day theatrical cume to Rs. 60.50 crore nett. The movie is heading to close its first week around Rs. 64 crore or so, which would be a pretty good total if it were not aided by external factors. That said, its numbers should be taken with an asterisk.
If the external push kept ongoing in the second week, too, it could go anywhere. The real test will begin when the makers let it fare organically, which so far seems unlikely. Based on current trends, the Shahid Kapoor movie will cross the lifetime cume of Cocktail, which opened with Rs. 10.50 crore in 2012 and went on to smash over Rs. 74.50 crore nett. However, that will hardly matter.
Since the production cost is on the higher side, the movie is likely to end up being an average performer, though, on the face value, it will look better than recent rom-coms like Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and Pati Patni Aur Woh Do.
