Welcome to the Jungle collected Rs. 8 crore nett approx on its first Monday, which is a very good hold. The Monday business is 25-30 per cent higher than that of Bhooth Bangla, whereas the weekend was 13 per cent higher, meaning the trend is improving. Having said that, there are summer breaks going on in the Northern states, which could help the weekday business, although the overall market isn’t showing any such benefit yet.
The four-day running total for the Akshay Kumar starrer stands at Rs. 71 crore nett approx, with the full first week headed for Rs. 94-95 crore nett.
The film held the best in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, which was down about 35-40 per cent from Friday, as compared to the 48 per cent drop nationally. Steeper drop was in Maharashtra, which was down 55 per cent, with the holiday boost on Friday probably being more significant there.
The weekend had set the film for success; this Monday’s hold has further strengthened its prospects. There will be competition from Alpha next week, but that should not pose much of a problem. The bigger challenge will come in the third week with Dhamaal 4, another successful comedy franchise targeting a similar audience. It will be the third week hold, which will cement the success status of the film and may even be a HIT. Bhooth Bangla added Rs. 49 crore nett after the second week. If Welcome to the Jungle manages that, it will likely be a HIT.
