Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s Alpha witnessed a 50 per cent decline on its second Monday compared to Friday, collecting an estimated Rs. 65 lakh. With this, the Shiv Rawail-directed spy action drama has earned Rs. 6.35 crore nett in the first four days of its second week, taking its overall domestic total to Rs. 51.50 crore nett.
The YRF Spy Universe film is expected to wrap up its second week with collections in the Rs. 8-9 crore range, pushing its cumulative total close to Rs. 55 crore. Going by its current box office trend, Alpha is likely to conclude its theatrical run with a lifetime collection of around Rs. 60-65 crore nett in India. While this would place it ahead of several recent women-led releases, the film is still expected to fall short of a successful theatrical verdict due to its high production cost.
Female-led action films have traditionally faced an uphill battle at the Indian box office, making Alpha a challenging project from the outset. The film also arrived at a time when the YRF Spy Universe was dealing with reduced momentum after the underwhelming performances of Tiger 3 and, more notably, War 2. Considering these circumstances, Alpha managing a respectable theatrical run can be viewed as a modest positive. However, from a commercial standpoint, the film is still expected to incur substantial losses.
The makers also deserve appreciation for maintaining transparency in reporting collections instead of resorting to questionable industry practices. The studio followed a similar approach with War 2, despite the immense expectations surrounding that release. As one of Hindi cinema’s leading production houses, Yash Raj Films continues to set an example by accepting both success and failure with integrity rather than relying on artificial inflation of box office numbers.
