DC Casting Buzz: Director Initially Wanted Vijay Deverakonda Instead of Lokesh Kanagaraj?

by masalabuzz

DC, featuring Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead, has recently arrived in theatres and is generating considerable discussion online. Amid the buzz surrounding the film, an old interview has sparked speculation that Vijay Deverakonda may have been considered for the lead role before Lokesh Kanagaraj came on board.

Was Vijay Deverakonda approached for DC?

In an earlier conversation with Cinema Vikatan, Vijay Deverakonda revealed that director Arun Matheswaran had once approached him with a film. Although the actor was impressed by the story, he eventually decided against taking it up because its subject was similar to another project he was already working on at the time.

Fans have since speculated that the project Vijay was referring to could be DC. However, neither Vijay Deverakonda nor Arun Matheswaran has officially confirmed whether the film mentioned in the interview was indeed DC.

The film revolves around Devadas, a rebellious man who takes on systemic struggles while living alongside his outlaw gang. His circumstances change after a confrontation with the authorities triggers a relentless chase. During this period, he encounters Chandra, a woman attempting to leave her troubled past behind. Their lives become intertwined as they navigate a dangerous journey filled with action and survival.

DC marks Lokesh Kanagaraj’s acting debut as a lead performer. Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy also feature in prominent roles. The film is backed by Sun Pictures, with Anirudh Ravichander composing both the songs and background score.

Vijay Deverakonda’s upcoming projects

Vijay Deverakonda will next headline the period action drama Ranabaali, directed by Rahul Sankrityan. The actor plays a fierce freedom fighter, while Rashmika Mandanna appears as the female lead. The film marks their first collaboration following their marriage.

The movie was initially scheduled to arrive on September 11, 2026, but reports suggest that its release could be postponed. Meanwhile, The Mummy actor Arnold Vosloo has been confirmed to play the antagonist.

Vijay also has Rowdy Janardhana in the pipeline. Directed by Ravi Kiran Kola, the action drama stars Keerthy Suresh alongside Vijay and is expected to release in December 2026.

In addition, the actor has announced a collaboration with Hi Nanna director Shouryuv. Tentatively titled VDxShouryuv, the project is described as a romantic action film, with Hesham Abdul Wahab composing the music.
