Alka Yagnik shares update on her recovery
Alka Yagnik, known for lending her voice to countless chartbusters, first revealed in 2024 that she had been diagnosed with a rare form of sensorineural hearing loss caused by a viral infection. Two years later, the singer says she is making steady progress and slowly regaining her footing.
Her recent public appearance, where she appeared physically weak and was seen being assisted by a volunteer, sparked concern among fans. Addressing the widespread speculation and concern, the singer took to social media to provide an update on her condition.
In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Alka explained why she had remained away from the public eye for so long. She wrote that she had intentionally stepped back from public appearances and social engagements over the past two years while dealing with health-related challenges. She also expressed gratitude for the love, prayers, and support she received from fans throughout her recovery journey.
The diagnosis that changed everything
Alka’s health battle began unexpectedly after a sudden medical incident nearly two years ago. The singer had earlier recalled the frightening moment when she realized she could no longer hear while disembarking from a flight.
Following medical examinations, doctors diagnosed her with rare sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), a condition believed to have been triggered by a severe viral attack that affected her auditory nerves.
Impact on her music career
The condition significantly affected her professional life, forcing her to step away from recording and music-related commitments. Renowned for timeless songs such as Tip Tip Barsa Paani, Ae Mere Humsafar, and Agar Tum Saath Ho, Alka has had to put several projects on hold during her treatment and recovery.
Her last major recording was Naram Kaalja, composed by A. R. Rahman for the 2024 film Amar Singh Chamkila.
Despite the challenges, the singer remains optimistic and has assured fans that she is gradually recovering and finding her way back, one step at a time.
