From being a great actor, a doting son, and a loving husband, Vicky Kaushal has been donning all the hats with great pride and responsibility. But when he became a father last year, something in him shifted. Just like any other dad, his shoulders are heavy and his eyes filled with dreams and aspirations, all revolving around his child. This is why every time he has to leave his newborn to go to work, he gets emotional.
Vicky Kaushal on having dad guilt
Despite being busy with working on multiple films, Vicky Kaushal has been taking good care of his wife, actress Katrina Kaif. From being on vacations together to hanging out with their baby boy, Vihaan Kaushal, the family of three has made their own little world.
Hence, when it’s time to go to work, Vicky feels his heart sinking. Kaushal revealed that he took off for six weeks when Vihaan was born and remembers the day he returned to work. While talking to The Nod, the Masaan debutant admitted that he can’t leave his wife alone at home.
The National Award-winning actor further spoke about having dad guilt for leaving his son for four days while shooting in nearly 230 km away from home. “My heart sank. It was hard,” he recalls.
Vicky further added, “There are so many new feelings that surface almost daily, because being a parent is new to me. I understand now when others would say ‘yaar, bacha kitna jaldi bada ho raha hai’ (the child is growing up so quickly). And I would think, ‘What are you talking about? Your child is still a year old.’ Now I get it.”
But while he is out, Katrina helps him in nurturing their child and navigating parenthood. In the interview, he further shared that after becoming a dad, he now appreciates the efforts his parents took to raise him. It sometimes occurs to him, at the most random moments, that instilling the right values is now his responsibility towards his son.
“He is going to learn by observing how his parents are thinking, talking, and behaving. So, I’ve realised whatever you want to see reflected in him has to come in your actions rather than words,” Vicky further shared.
