The box-office run of Obsession continues to gather momentum in India. The Hollywood horror thriller delivered an outstanding performance on Tuesday, collecting approximately Rs 3.5 crore (USD 370K), marking a 40 percent jump from its already impressive Monday business.
With this, the film’s five-day cumulative collection has reached around Rs 15 crore (USD 1.60 million) at the Indian box office.
Weekday collections rival weekend numbers
What makes Obsession‘s performance particularly remarkable is its ability to sustain, and even improve, its momentum during the weekdays. Tuesday’s earnings came extremely close to Sunday’s figures and even surpassed the film’s Saturday collections.
In terms of ticket sales, Tuesday emerged as the strongest day of the film’s run so far, outperforming even Sunday. The trend indicates that audience interest remains exceptionally high, with word-of-mouth continuing to drive footfalls.
Early booking trends for Wednesday suggest another solid day ahead. Advance sales are tracking much closer to Tuesday than Monday, indicating that the film could once again collect around Rs 3 crore. If the trend holds, Obsession is likely to conclude its first week with collections nearing the Rs 20 crore mark.
Rs 50 crore target looks achievable
The film’s long-term box-office prospects will depend on how well it holds in its second week. However, given its current trajectory and extraordinary weekday performance, a lifetime collection of around Rs 50 crore now appears to be a realistic possibility.
A surprise Hollywood success story
Hollywood’s performance in India is often driven by established franchises and intellectual properties, particularly within the horror genre, where titles from The Conjuring universe have traditionally dominated.
Obsession, however, has managed to break that pattern. Produced independently on a modest budget of approximately USD 750,000, the film has emerged as a surprise success story. Notably, the movie is on course to recover its entire production cost from India’s theatrical share alone.
Another win for Hollywood in India
Obsession adds to Hollywood’s growing list of successes in India this year. The film’s unexpected breakout performance further strengthens what is already shaping up to be an exceptional year for the industry.
What’s even more significant is that some of Hollywood’s biggest tentpole releases are still awaiting release, including Avengers: Doomsday, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
If the current momentum continues and these major releases perform as expected, 2026 could end up becoming Hollywood’s biggest-ever year at the Indian box office by a considerable margin.
