The Dhurandhar franchise emerged as one of the biggest box-office success stories in recent years, but the road to its record-breaking run was far from risk-free. In a recent interview, producer Jyoti Deshpande revealed how key members of the team, including Ranveer Singh and director Aditya Dhar, adopted an unconventional compensation model that ultimately paid rich dividends.
Ranveer Singh opted for a lower upfront fee for Dhurandhar
Speaking to ET Digital, Jyoti Deshpande shared details about the financial strategy behind the blockbuster franchise. She revealed that both Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar chose to take a lower fixed fee and instead tied a significant portion of their earnings to the film’s performance.
According to Deshpande, Ranveer entered the project with a modest upfront payment and a backend profit-sharing arrangement, allowing him to benefit directly from the film’s success. A similar structure was agreed upon with director Aditya Dhar, who also accepted a reduced fixed remuneration in exchange for a share in the profits.
She explained that this model helped align everyone’s interests, ensuring that the cast, crew, and producers were equally invested in making the film a commercial triumph. The approach allowed both the financial risks and rewards to be shared across the team.
A gamble that delivered massive returns
Deshpande further disclosed that the production eventually cost nearly twice the amount initially budgeted. As the project evolved into a two-part franchise, the scale and investment continued to grow.
However, the increased spending proved worthwhile as the films went on to become major commercial successes. Reflecting on the outcome, the producer noted that the entire team ultimately benefited from the franchise’s extraordinary performance.
Dhurandhar franchise’s box-office success
Reports suggest that Dhurandhar Part 1 collected approximately Rs 1,307 crore worldwide, while Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which released on March 19, 2026, reportedly crossed Rs 1,790 crore globally.
Together, the two films are said to have generated more than Rs 3,000 crore in worldwide revenue, cementing the franchise’s status as one of the biggest box-office juggernauts and delivering substantial returns to everyone involved in the project.
