British actor Josh O’Connor is preparing for the release of Disclosure Day, the upcoming science-fiction thriller helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg. The film boasts a stellar ensemble featuring Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell, and O’Connor in key roles. Ahead of its theatrical debut, the actor spoke exclusively about what attracted him to the project and his experience collaborating with Spielberg.
Josh O’Connor on reading the script for Disclosure Day
Reflecting on his first encounter with the screenplay, O’Connor admitted that it was one of the fastest script-reading experiences of his career. The actor explained that due to his dyslexia, he usually takes several days to carefully read and revisit a script before fully understanding its nuances. However, Disclosure Day immediately grabbed his attention.
Speaking about the experience, O’Connor said, “I read it in an hour, which is incredibly unusual for me. Because I’m very dyslexic, I normally need three or four days to properly absorb a script, reread sections, and let everything sink in. But with this one, I finished it in an hour and thought it was fantastic. Of course, I was always going to say yes because it’s Steven Spielberg, but it was a bonus that the script itself was exceptional.”
The Spielberg factor
The actor also praised Spielberg’s ability to merge profound ideas with mainstream entertainment. According to O’Connor, the film tackles some of humanity’s oldest questions while maintaining the pace and excitement of a thriller.
“I loved the way the story explores timeless questions about human existence and what might lie beyond the boundaries of what we currently understand,” he shared. “What Steven does so brilliantly is take these enormous, age-old ideas and make them feel immediate, relevant, and entertaining for modern audiences.”
