Project Hail Mary continued its impressive run at the Indian box office, delivering a strong third weekend with collections of approximately Rs. 12 crore (USD 1.30 million). The drop from the second weekend was just 25%, indicating a steady hold. Notably, the dip appears slightly higher due to last Friday being a holiday, while Saturday and Sunday saw minimal declines of 13% and 17%, respectively.
Strong momentum continues
The Ryan Gosling-starrer has now amassed a total of around Rs. 65.65 crore (USD 7 million) after 18 days in theatres. Given its consistent performance, the film is firmly on track to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark in India.
Based on current trends, the film is expected to approach Rs. 75 crore by the end of the week, with the fourth week potentially taking it close to Rs. 85 crore. From there, an additional Rs. 15 crore seems achievable, putting the coveted Rs. 100 crore milestone well within reach.
What makes this run even more remarkable is its modest start—opening at under Rs. 3 crore on day one—before gaining momentum through strong word-of-mouth and steady audience turnout.
A rare success for the genre
The success of Project Hail Mary is particularly noteworthy as space adventure films are not always guaranteed performers in India. While past hits like Interstellar and Gravity have found success, the market is typically dominated by franchises and established brands.
As a standalone film, this strong box office trajectory highlights its growing popularity and audience acceptance.
