Assi Box Office: Taapsee Pannu’s Courtroom Drama Adds Rs 70 Lakh in 3rd Weekend, Nears Theatrical End

The courtroom drama Assi, directed by Anubhav Sinha and starring Taapsee Pannu, added Rs 70 lakh to its box office tally over the third weekend, with Rs 25 lakh coming in on Sunday alone. This brings the film’s 17-day cumulative total to Rs 9.65 crore nett at the Indian box office.

Bankrolled by Benaras Mediaworks and T-Series Films, Assi is now approaching the end of its theatrical run, especially with the release of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge on the horizon. Based on current trends, the Taapsee Pannu starrer is expected to close its run around Rs 10–11 crore nett. Unfortunately, with these numbers, the Anubhav Sinha directorial is being considered a box office flop.

Context: The Changing Landscape for Small & Mid-Sized Films

The performance of Assi highlights the struggles of smaller films in the post-pandemic theatrical market. Many audiences now prefer to wait for digital releases rather than rush to cinemas for mid-sized films, leaving limited room for sustained box office growth. Industry experts suggest that extending the OTT window to around six months could help give smaller films a fighting chance in this new landscape.
