Avatar: Fire and Ash has made a strong start at the box office, earning around USD 345 million worldwide in its five-day opening weekend. The James Cameron sci-fi adventure collected USD 257 million from international markets across 53 territories, while the US contributed USD 89 million to the total.
Compared to its predecessor, Avatar: The Way of Water, which debuted with USD 441.7 million in 2022, this marks a 21% drop. The difference is largely attributed to the gap between releases—while the second film came a decade after the original, the third instalment followed relatively quickly, giving audiences less time to build anticipation.
Still, the movie recorded the second-biggest opening of 2025, trailing only Zootopia 2, which grossed USD 560.3 million. Globally, it ranks as the ninth biggest Hollywood opener in the post-pandemic era, with Spider-Man: No Way Home ($600.5 million) still holding the top spot. Interestingly, the previous Avatar film continues to hold its fifth position in the all-time post-COVID list.
