Saif Ali Khan Recalls Being Scolded by His Aunt for Dancing at a Wedding: “Don’t Tell Me You’re Performing Here”
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan recently opened up about an awkward and deeply embarrassing moment from his early years in the industry, when he was reprimanded by a family member for dancing at a high-profile wedding. The actor shared the incident while discussing the growing trend of celebrities performing at lavish wedding celebrations.
‘I Was Honestly Humiliated’: Saif on the Incident
In a candid conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Saif reflected on how perceptions around celebrity appearances at weddings have changed over the years. Recalling the moment that altered his own approach, the actor said that his father’s sister confronted him backstage while he was performing at a wedding in Mumbai.
According to Saif, his aunt — whom he described as “quite a regal lady” — walked up to him and said bluntly, “Don’t tell me you are dancing at this wedding.” The comment, he admitted, left him feeling embarrassed and deeply uncomfortable.
That single moment, Saif revealed, stayed with him and eventually led him to step away from performing at private wedding functions altogether.
Performing Is Fine — But With Boundaries
While Saif made it clear that he doesn’t judge other actors who choose to perform at weddings, he stressed that context and presentation matter. He explained that if an actor truly sees themselves as an entertainer, and there are no personal or family conflicts involved, performing at weddings should not be an issue.
However, he added that such events must maintain a clear distinction between celebrities and guests. “There should be a platform that makes you feel like a star,” he said, implying that blurred boundaries can sometimes diminish an actor’s aura.
‘Mystery Is a Currency’: Saif on Stardom Today
During the interview, Saif also spoke about how constant public appearances and overexposure are affecting modern stardom. He believes that actors today are far more accessible than before, which has reduced the element of surprise around them.
“People are not surprised to see film actors anymore,” Saif noted. He praised actors like Ajay Devgn for maintaining privacy, saying that distance has become a powerful currency in today’s entertainment landscape. According to Saif, limited visibility makes audiences more curious and invested when an actor finally appears on screen.
