Ram Charan’s Peddi has kicked off its box-office journey on a strong note, collecting approximately USD 2.80-2.85 million (around Rs. 27 crore) from overseas markets on its opening day. The figure includes an impressive USD 2.1 million generated through Wednesday previews alone.

Combined with an estimated Rs. 81.75 crore gross from India, the film’s worldwide opening-day total stands at approximately Rs. 108.75 crore. With this feat, Peddi has secured the ninth-biggest opening day ever recorded for a Telugu film. It also marks Ram Charan’s second movie to cross the Rs. 100 crore worldwide opening-day milestone and his first as a solo lead actor.

Overseas performance led by North America

The United States emerged as the biggest contributor to the film’s overseas earnings, accounting for roughly USD 1.77 million, including USD 1.45 million from premiere shows. The United Kingdom followed with around USD 325,000, while the Middle East and Oceania contributed approximately USD 250,000 and USD 150,000 respectively.

Although the domestic opening has been highly encouraging, the overseas performance has fallen slightly short of expectations. While the premiere numbers were solid, the collections on Thursday did not witness the desired jump. The film will now rely on weekend growth to strengthen its international run.

Ninth-highest opening day in Telugu cinema

With a worldwide gross of Rs. 108.75 crore, Peddi has earned a place among the biggest opening-day performers in Telugu cinema history.

Rs. 100 crore openings becoming the norm for Telugu event films

Interestingly, every film in the top ten list has now crossed the Rs. 100 crore worldwide opening-day mark, underlining the massive scale at which Telugu cinema operates today.

While a Rs. 100 crore opening is often viewed as a landmark achievement in Indian cinema, the benchmark has increasingly become standard territory for major Telugu releases. For the industry’s biggest stars, the conversation is no longer about reaching Rs. 100 crore on day one, but rather about how far beyond that figure a film can go.

Notably, superstars Chiranjeevi and Mahesh Babu are yet to feature in this elite list. However, industry expectations remain high for Mahesh Babu’s upcoming Varanasi, which is widely projected to challenge the upper end of the rankings and could potentially target a Rs. 200 crore-plus opening worldwide.
