EXCLUSIVE: Vishal Jethwa recalls his moments with Salman Khan and meeting Martin Scorsese

Vishal Jethwa has been one of the breakout stars of 2025, thanks to his career-defining performance in Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound. In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, the young actor opened up about meeting legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese, working with megastar Salman Khan, and the whirlwind of recognition following the success of his latest film.

Homebound’s Oscars selection and meeting Martin Scorsese
Vishal recalled the surreal moment when Homebound was selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars. “When the news came, we were all celebrating, but it took me a few days to actually process it. It’s a very blessed feeling,” he shared.

Meeting Martin Scorsese, Vishal added, was nothing short of a dream. “We were all nervous when he arrived. Neeraj sir went first to speak with him, and then we got a chance to meet him. Just sitting there, listening to him, hearing his stories, and knowing he saw our film—it was incredible. That moment will stay with me forever.”

From TV beginnings to Bollywood success
Reflecting on his journey, Vishal said, “Sometimes I feel like I’m living a dream. There were times I wondered if I’d ever reach this point, if I could really succeed in such a tough industry. But now, I see it happening. It feels like I’m living more than I ever imagined, and it’s not just my dream—it’s the dream of everyone who believed in me.”

Scenes that didn’t make the cut
Vishal explained that while some beautiful scenes didn’t make it to the final cut, he doesn’t regret it. “There were emotional scenes with Janhvi and my mom that didn’t make it, but the film works as a whole. Neeraj sir always says, ‘Kill your darlings,’ and that’s exactly what we did for the good of the story.”

Toughest scenes in Homebound
Asked about the most challenging moments, Vishal pointed out the recruitment officer scene and the emotionally taxing climax. “The recruitment scene was the first we shot, and it was intense because of the vulnerability of my character. The climax was also physically and emotionally draining, but every challenge was worth it.”

Choosing between Homebound and Mardani 2
When asked which role was closer to his heart, Vishal refused to pick a favorite. “Every character and every film is special. I can’t choose one over the other. My perspective might even change tomorrow.”

Working with Salman Khan in Tiger 3
Vishal had nothing but praise for Salman Khan. “Salman sir has this amazing aura. He meets everyone warmly, like a child, yet exudes confidence. I remember him changing his shirt on set in front of everyone—it was classic Bhaijaan energy!”

Impact of Homebound on his career
The film’s success has opened new doors for Vishal. “I’m getting different kinds of scripts now, which I hadn’t before. Homebound gave me recognition, better offers, and an important place in the industry. It’s a film I’ll always remember for so many reasons.”

What’s next for Vishal Jethwa?
While Vishal couldn’t reveal specifics about his upcoming projects, he hinted that 2026 will bring exciting new work. “I’m in the process of signing a few things, and I’ve already shot a couple of projects that might release soon.”
