On January 5, Salman Khan would be joining forces with acclaimed filmmaker duo Raj and DK for an action-comedy entertainer. Now, after green-lighting that project, the superstar appears to be considering another ambitious venture.
Salman Khan in discussions with Farhan Akhtar for a period epic
Pinkvilla has exclusively learned that Salman Khan is currently in talks with Farhan Akhtar for a large-scale period action drama inspired by one of the most iconic figures in Indian history.
According to sources, discussions between Salman and Farhan have been ongoing for more than a month. The actor is said to be highly impressed by the vision, scale, and storytelling approach of the proposed film, which is being designed as a grand theatrical spectacle.
A source close to the development revealed, “Salman Khan and Farhan Akhtar have been meeting consistently over the last few weeks to discuss a potential collaboration. Salman has responded very positively to the material presented to him and is genuinely interested in the project. While the discussions are still in the preliminary stages and formal agreements are yet to be signed, there is excitement on both sides about the possibility of working together for the first time.”
Planned as a two-part cinematic event
The source further added that the film is envisioned as a massive period action saga mounted on a grand scale.
“It is a huge historical action drama, and the makers intend to tell the story across two films,” the source shared.
More clarity regarding the project’s development and Salman’s final commitment is expected by the end of the year.
Could become Salman’s next film after Raj & DK project
If negotiations progress smoothly, the untitled period drama could emerge as Salman Khan’s next feature film after completing his superhero comedy with Raj and DK.
At present, Salman is occupied with the shoot of director Vamshi Paidipally’s upcoming action entertainer. He is expected to begin filming the Raj and DK project around October 2026.
The proposed historical drama will reportedly be produced under Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment banner and is tentatively scheduled to go on floors in the summer of 2027.
Interestingly, while the filmmaker attached to direct the project remains undisclosed, sources confirm that Farhan Akhtar will be associated solely as a producer and will not be directing the film.
