Are Mohanlal and Manjummel Boys Director Chidambaram Teaming Up? Filmmaker Breaks Silence

Reports of a potential collaboration between Mohanlal and director Chidambaram recently created a buzz among fans, especially after the filmmaker’s father hinted at the possibility on social media. However, Chidambaram has now addressed the speculation and clarified the situation.

Is Mohanlal collaborating with Chidambaram?

Speaking to Media One, Chidambaram stated that there have been no discussions with Mohanlal regarding any film project. He explained that his father may have come across a rumor and shared it online, but there is currently no truth to the reports.

The director further revealed that while he has met Mohanlal on a few occasions, their interactions have been casual and have not involved conversations about working together on a movie.

When questioned about the possibility of directing Mohanlal in the future, Chidambaram said that if such an opportunity ever comes his way, he would love to make a full-fledged entertainer packed with all the elements and memorable moments audiences expect from a Mohanlal film.

Chidambaram’s upcoming film

Meanwhile, Chidambaram is gearing up for the release of Balan, a mystery psychological thriller. The film revolves around a teenage boy who sets out to find his missing mother, uncovering painful truths about his past while seeking answers and closure.

The movie features Farzana Palathingal, Adhisheshan KR, Zinan, Jean Paul Lal, Girish AD, and others in significant roles, with Tovino Thomas making a special cameo appearance. Penned by Suriya47 director Jithu Madhavan, Balan is scheduled to release in theatres on June 19, 2026.

Mohanlal’s upcoming projects

Mohanlal was last seen in Drishyam 3, directed by Jeethu Joseph. The thriller marks the third installment in the successful franchise and features returning cast members including Meena, Ansiba Haasan, Esther Anil, Murali Gopy, Asha Sarath, Kalabhavan Shajon, and Siddique. Following its theatrical run, the film is set to premiere on Prime Video on June 18, 2026.

The actor is currently shooting for Athimanoharam, directed by Tharun Moorthy and co-starring Meera Jasmine. The film is expected to arrive in theatres during the Ayudha Pooja festive season.

In addition, Mohanlal has projects lined up with Vishnu Mohan, Priyadarshan, and Dileesh Pothan. He is also expected to make special appearances in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, and Thudakkam, the debut film of his daughter Vismaya Mohanlal.
