Varun Dhawan recently irked a section of people online when he commented on Ranveer Singh’s contribution to the success of the Dhurandhar franchise. At a promotional interaction with his veteran filmmaker father, David Dhawan, Varun suggested that Dhurandhar’s monumental success belongs solely to its director. This comment has not gone down well with Ranveer Singh’s massive fandom.

Varun Dhawan and David Dhawan, who are coming up with their romantic-comedy film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, sat down to talk about how tough it has become to gauge box-office highs and lows in the current era.

Reflecting on the evolving industry, David Dhawan stated that despite the noise, the stars still rule Bollywood. “I think anyone who has a pen and a phone feels they are a journalist. It has become very difficult. I can’t figure out which film became a hit and which one didn’t. It’s very difficult to gauge collections. But again, it’s run by the actors. Pehle bhi tha, abhi bhi hai (It existed earlier too, and it still exists now)” the senior director opined.

Varun questioned, “Why do you feel that? Today, when you see Dhurandhar, you see someone like Aditya Dhar and the way he made the film. Toh woh toh director ki jeet thi na? (So that was the director’s win, right?)”

David Dhawan partly agreed but stood his ground that actors are equally important. “He is one of a kind. Yes, that was a director’s win, but otherwise, if you see, actors ka zyada haath hota hai (Actors have a bigger role in it),” David Ji stated.
