Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest outing Pati Patni Aur Woh Do collected Rs. 5.50 crore on Day 2, registering a 50 per cent spike from the opening day. The 50 per cent growth from opening day, which normally would have been fine but for a film opening low, needed to be 75-80 per cent type to have some sort of run.
The comedy drama, directed by Mudassar Aziz, took its two-day running cume to Rs. 9.25 crore nett at the Indian box office. The movie should aim for another jump on Day 3 and close its first weekend somewhere around the Rs. 15 crore mark. Co-starring Wamiqa Gabbi, Rakulpreet Singh, and Sara Ali Khan, the comedy drama met with mixed-bag reaction from the audience, which is why the movie is struggling at the box office. Had it garnered a superb word-of-mouth, there would have been a better box office picture ahead.
The post-pandemic era has been particularly unforgiving for small and mid-budget small-town comedies. Before the pandemic, especially during 2018-2019, this space was thriving with a plethora of hit films, including Pati Patni Aur Woh. Ayushmann Khurrana was at the forefront of this trend, delivering multiple back-to-back hits that also opened well at the box office. Had this film been released in 2020, it likely would have opened three to five times higher than its current numbers.
The Day-wise Box Office Collections of Pati Patni Aur Woh Do are as follows:
Day Box Office
1 Rs. 3.85 crore
2 Rs. 5.50 crore
Total Rs. 9.25 crore
