Following the massive success of the Dhurandhar franchise, Ranveer Singh is now gearing up for what could become one of Indian cinema’s biggest literary adaptations. After reports emerged that the actor would headline a cinematic version of The Immortals of Meluha alongside Birla Studios, fresh buzz suggests he has officially secured the rights to the trilogy.
Ranveer Singh reportedly acquires Meluha trilogy rights
According to recent reports, Ranveer had long wanted to portray Lord Shiva on screen and remained deeply fascinated by the universe created by Amish Tripathi. The actor reportedly moved quickly to acquire the rights once they expired from filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
The rights are said to have been purchased under Ranveer’s production banner, Maa Kasam Films. Industry reports claim the deal was closed for a staggering Rs. 40 crore, although there has been no official confirmation regarding the exact amount.
A source quoted in media reports stated that the project is a passion venture for Ranveer and is currently under active development. The actor is also reportedly taking on a creative leadership role as a showrunner while working closely with Birla Studios to shape the cinematic universe.
A long-term cinematic universe in the making
Earlier reports suggested that the adaptation is presently in the writing stage, with the makers planning an ambitious three-film franchise based on the Shiva Trilogy:
- The Immortals of Meluha
- The Secret of the Nagas
- The Oath of the Vayuputras
Sources further claimed that extensive screenplay development and world-building work has already begun, with the first installment expected to go on floors in 2028.
If the project materialises as planned, it could mark one of the biggest mythological film franchises attempted in modern Indian cinema
