Alia Bhatt has reportedly come on board the expanding universe of Tumbbad 2 in a significant role. Sources reveal that the actress has already started shooting for the sequel and will be working on the project for an intensive 20-day schedule.
Despite the relatively short duration, her character is said to be crucial to the narrative and will play a key part in delivering a major twist towards the climax.
A brief yet pivotal role
Insiders suggest that Alia’s role goes beyond a mere cameo and holds strong importance in shaping the story. “She has a power-packed part in Tumbbad 2. While the shoot spans around 20 days, the character is vital for the film’s progression,” a source shared.
The decision to join the film reportedly came easily for the actress. Known for her performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi, Alia was said to be impressed by the script. According to insiders, the sequel’s writing is “a notch above” the original and is being mounted on a much larger scale, with a budget estimated at around ₹100 crore.
The film is currently targeting a theatrical release in December 2027 and is expected to further expand into a trilogy.

Meanwhile, Alia is also gearing up for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious project Love & War, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
She is expected to resume shooting for the film by the end of May, with nearly 50 days of filming still pending. The team aims to wrap production by August 2026, with a grand theatrical release planned around Republic Day 2027.
