Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar’s ambitious collaboration on Don 3 had initially sparked major excitement among fans. However, the buzz soon turned into concern when the Dhurandhar actor reportedly exited the project following the massive success of Aditya Dhar’s film. His sudden departure is said to have created tension between Singh and Farhan Akhtar’s production banner, eventually leading the matter to the Producers Guild of India (GUILD). Now, reports suggest that both parties may have reached a settlement, with Ranveer agreeing to compensate the makers.
Ranveer Singh to compensate Excel Entertainment?
After Ranveer stepped away from Don 3, Excel Entertainment co-founders Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani reportedly approached the Producers Guild of India for mediation. According to sources, the producers argued that Singh should compensate them, as he had already committed to the film and was involved in costly pre-production work before backing out due to creative differences.
A report by The Free Press Journal claims that Ranveer has agreed to return his signing amount, estimated at around ₹10 crore, to the makers. Additionally, he is said to have offered them a stake in his upcoming project, tentatively titled Pralaay. However, there has been no official confirmation from Ranveer Singh, the Guild, or Excel Entertainment so far.
What led to the Don 3 controversy?
For those unaware, Excel Entertainment had announced Ranveer Singh as the new face of Don 3, making him the third lead in the franchise after Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. Last year, it was reported that Singh had parted ways with the much-anticipated film.
Sources suggest that after the success of Dhurandhar, Ranveer is keen to collaborate with filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Atlee. He also reportedly wants to avoid doing back-to-back gangster films. This is believed to be one of the reasons he asked Jai Mehta to fast-track Pralaay, aiming to begin production sooner than originally planned.
There are also rumors that Ranveer had been participating in look tests with co-stars before exiting the project. At a Guild meeting, a producer allegedly claimed that the actor cited unprofessionalism and delays on Excel Entertainment’s part as reasons for stepping away from Don 3.
