Michael, the much-anticipated biographical drama on the life of the King of Pop, is set to offer fans a fresh perspective on Michael Jackson’s journey—from his early days with the The Jackson 5 to his rise as a solo icon. The film stars Jaafar Jackson, the singer’s nephew, in the lead role.
Colman Domingo on Jaafar’s transformation
Ahead of the film’s global release, Colman Domingo, who portrays Joe Jackson, shared his experience of watching Jaafar step into the shoes of the legendary artist.
Recalling their first encounter on set, Domingo said he was deeply moved. “The first time I saw Jaafar performing as Michael, I felt an overwhelming mix of emotions,” he shared. “I was not only impressed but also felt a strong instinct to protect him. That feeling helped me understand Joe Jackson’s perspective in a more personal way.”
Domingo went on to praise Jaafar’s performance, noting that it went far beyond imitation. “Jaafar is truly special,” he said. “What stood out was that he didn’t just replicate Michael’s movements—he understood the intention behind them. He captured the meaning behind every gesture. It’s an alchemy between the actor and the real-life person that I’ve rarely witnessed.”
